Dear [Elected Official’s Name],

I am writing to you with grave urgency and deep distress: over 3,500 children under the age of five in Gaza are facing imminent death by starvation, while another 290,000 are on the brink. This is not a natural famine. This is engineered starvation, imposed deliberately and systematically by the Israeli government.

For the past nine weeks, Israel has blocked food, clean water, baby formula, nutritional supplements, medication, sanitary products, and shelter materials from entering Gaza. These are essential for life—especially for children, who now make up 50% of Gaza’s population. More than 70,000 children are currently hospitalised due to severe malnutrition.

According to Article 55 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, the occupying power is legally obligated to ensure access to food and medical supplies in occupied territory. Article 59 further states that if the population does not have adequate supplies, the occupying power “shall agree to relief schemes” and facilitate them by all available means. Israel is in direct violation of these obligations.

Community kitchens that have served thousands are now out of ingredients and shutting down. Children are being pushed to the limits of survival.

“The whole world, unfortunately, is contributing to or participating in starving the children in the Gaza Strip. Without taking any action, they are all, unfortunately, complicit.” — Mahmoud Alsaqqa, Oxfam’s Food Security Lead in Gaza.

Blocking food and water is not just a war crime. It is a human rights violation. It is genocide. As your constituent, I am calling on you to take immediate action:

  • Impose a two-way arms and trade embargo on Israel
  • End all diplomatic relations with the apartheid regime
  • Recognise the State of Palestine immediately
  • Demand international investigations and accountability for war crimes

There is no excuse for inaction. You must act now.
