Subject: Without Aid, 14,000 Babies Could Die in the Next 48 Hours / Israel’s Starvation Campaign Could Kill 14,000 Babies in Next 2 Days
Dear [Elected Official’s Name],
On Tuesday, May 20, the United Nations humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher, the UN’s under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs, warned that 14,000 babies are at risk of dying within the next 48 hours if aid does not reach them.
“We need to flood the Gaza Strip with humanitarian aid,” he told the BBC. “I want to save as many of these 14,000 babies as we can in the next 48 hours.”
Since March 2nd, Israel has blocked all food, water, medical equipment and sanitation products from entering Gaza. This comes as Israel has already killed at least 18,000 children in Gaza in 19 months—burned, bombed, and buried beneath rubble. Now, it is starving those who remain.
Israel’s leadership has openly stated its aim is to permanently occupy Gaza, and to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from their land. In October 2023, the Israeli defence minister Yoav Gallant even spouted that “We will eliminate everything”, setting the stage for these intentions.
There is no justification for the mass starvation and extermination of a population. This is no justification for genocide.
