A new report from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) initiative has confirmed that half a million people in Gaza are now facing starvation, with the entire population on the brink of famine.

For over 70 days, the apartheid state of Israel has sealed Gaza off from the outside world—blocking all food, water, medical equipment, and sanitation products. This is not just a blockade, it is the deliberate starvation of an entire people. In 2024, UN special rapporteur on the right to food Michael Fakhri affirmed the denial of food is a war crime and constitutes ‘a situation of genocide’. 

According to the IPC, “goods indispensable for people’s survival are either depleted or expected to run out in the coming weeks.”

• 93% of Gaza’s population is enduring extreme food shortages.
• Nearly 9,000 children in Gaza have been hospitalised with acute malnutrition. Doctors report that many of these children are so severely starved, they are losing their vision.

The US and Israel are pushing to set up militarised food checkpoints in southern Gaza— forcing the entire population into the already decimated Rafah region. The UN and relief orgs have condemned this, warning that it is a clear example of using food and water as a weapon and poses deadly risks to Palestinians.

Blocking food and water is not just a war crime. It is a human rights violation. It is genocide. As your constituent, I am calling on you to take immediate action:

• Impose a two-way arms and trade embargo on Israel
• End all diplomatic relations with the apartheid regime
• Recognise the State of Palestine immediately
• Demand international investigations and accountability for war crimes
