I am writing to bring to your attention the deeply concerning reports of Israel’s illegal harvesting of organs from deceased Palestinians, and the refusal to release bodies to loved ones.

The recent reported theft of organs from 80 Palestinians in Gaza, as well as the confiscation of bodies and withholding of remains, amount to egregious violations of human rights and dignity. Despite Israel insisting they ended this practice in the 1990s, multiple officials and investigative journalists have reported its continuation. (More resources below).

The collective punishment of Palestinian families through the refusal to release the remains to loved ones is a grave violation of humanitarian principles and a violation of the Geneva Convention. These are war crimes. Removing organs and therefore desecrating the body is also considered haram by many in Islam, making this latest report feel like a targeted attack to cause distress for Muslim Palestinians.

As my representative, I urge you to undertake clear action to address these deeply troubling allegations. It is imperative that the government takes a firm stance against any form of illegal organ harvesting, desecration of corpses and withholding remains. We must ensure measures are put in place to ensure that such violations are thoroughly investigated and prevented.

I implore you to use your position to advocate for the protection of human rights and the dignity of all individuals, regardless of their background. It is essential that our government takes a principled stand on this matter and works towards ensuring accountability and justice for the victims and their families.

This has gone on for long enough, with the flagrant war crimes mounting up, it is time to end complicity in this genocide and not only call for a ceasefire, but stop all military aid and sales to Israel and pull all financial ties to the state.
